Dear Parents, Please find below some important information about upcoming events, arrangements for Ramadan and other important notices that will help to keep us all safe & healthy. We have moved to WeDuc and will be continuing to 'catch' those of you who have not yet made the transition. This new system will help to ensure we are 'paperless' and continue to protect the environment against climate change. I hope you are well and your child is happy in school. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas please let us know. Our doors are open and we are here to help. With regards, Ms Gita |

Ramadan & Fasting Ramadan will soon begin for many of our families. During this special time, I know that many children are keen to copy older family members. Fasting is not compulsory for young children and with longer, warmer days, it can impact on their health & well-being. We do not expect children in Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 or Y5 to fast during the school week. Please try to encourage your child not to fast as it is not compulsory. If you do decide your child will fast, we will expect you to take them home for lunchtime so that you can monitor their health, decide if they should continue and to support them with their prayers. If your child is in Y6, we will support them. They will be asked to stay in during lunchtimes to conserve energy. They will also need to come to school with an extra snack/water just in case they feel unwell and need to break their fast. Please make sure your child understands their health should always come first.
We wish you all a peaceful Ramadan. |
World Book Day
World Book Day is on Thursday, 7th March 2024. At Shenton, Reading is prioritised because we recognise that it is an essential skill which underpins a child’s ability to access the wider curriculum and allows them to broaden their vocabulary and develop vivid imaginations. As part of our World Book Day celebrations we are inviting the children to come to school dressed as any book character they wish. Your child will also be given a £1 BOOK TOKEN which can be swapped for one of 12 World Book Day £1 books OR used to get £1 off any full price book costing £2.99 or more. The token can be used at Waterstones, WHSmith, Tesco, Asda as well as at many independent bookshops and can only be used between 15 FEBRUARY - 31 MARCH 2024.

Photos The school photographer will be in school on Thursday 18th April. Children will be in class group photos and team photos which you can later purchase. Please ensure children are looking smart in their school uniform.

AttendanceSince the pandemic, our children's overall attendance remains below the recommendation of 95%. The Government has calculated that children who fall below this level (have more than 10 days absence) are unlikely to meet end of year standards. We know how much you support your children and hope for a successful future for them. With this in mind, please do not keep your child away from school unless you absolutely have to. The Government have begun to review laws and expectations, and if any family are considering an extended absence above 20 school days, the chances are you will be taken straight to court. Many children are still catching up after the pandemic, so please do your best to ensure they attend school. |
PE KITS – Don’t forget please! Participation in PE (Physical Education) is hugely important for the development of health, fitness and team work. Please can you ensure your child leaves their PE kit in school and only takes it home in the holidays to wash. Below are the days that your child’s class has PE: Also please ensure for health and safety reasons all jewellery must be removed.
Monday Year 2 Tuesday Reception & Year 1 Wednesday Reception & Year 6 Thursday Year 3 Friday Year 5 Year 4 go swimming on Wednesday afternoons. Please can we also remind you about our ‘uniform’ for PE. The children should wear a white T-shirt, black shorts or joggers/leggings and black plimsolls/trainers. Thank you for your support.

Birthday Treats Just a reminder to parents that we kindly ask you not to send sweets, cakes or chocolates to give as treats to other children. The reason for this is that we have a number of children with allergies and we are also a healthy eating school. If you wish to send anything in you are welcome to send fruit, raisins or pencils. Thank you for your support. |
