Year 1 & 2 Fun At Home!

Dear Parents,

This page will give you some ideas of how you can support your Year 1 and Year 2 children.

The Government have cancelled the end of year tests.

In these difficult times, when we are likely to be at home for a lengthy time, it is really important to keep a daily routine for your children. Try and make a timetable for your day, wake up time and routine for breakfast, breaking up the day with times for play through physical exercise, and making sure your children go to bed at a set time. It is also really important to stay positive, say 'well done' or 'that's great' at least 5 times a day to your children. This will help you to manage your and your children's days happily.

If you need any help please email Mrs McVeigh ( ) for further advice.

Summer Term KS1 Competitions!

Here are the results for last week's Spelling Challenge:
In first place with 14 children entering was... 2 Spain! (you win 10 points)
In joint second with 13 children entering in both classes was... 1 Japan and 2 Pakistan! (you win 5 points each)
In third place with 7 children entering was... 1 Holland!
So who will win the next KS1 Challenge? Will it be 2 Spain again?
At the end the term, Mrs McVeigh will count the points to see which class has won!

So far only 20 children have completed the "Geometry Challenge"! Can we make it to 50?

Your teachers are checking everyday and they can see who is taking part!

This 2 week challenge is... "Geometry"! Who knows their 2D and 3D shapes?

To join in, log onto Education City using your login and password
Remember to email Mrs McVeigh if you can't remember your login at
Click on "Classwork" and you will see your maths challenge waiting for you!

Please tell your child to be extra careful and only click on "finish" if they have finished the test. Please click on "come back later" if they want to leave it and try some more another time.

Good Luck!

Mrs McVeigh will be announcing the next winning class on Friday 5th June!

If not... make sure you take a look!

Reading websites!

On the site above you will find 11 clips of different stories suitable for KS1 children which are animated and read!
Click on ‘classroom ideas’. This gives a list of suggestions for each story or activities that your child can do at home with adult support.

Click on this link to watch a video that explains the different types of fiction. There is also an activity and a fun quiz!

This British Council website's activities allow children to help create their own story by selecting various options that will then appear in the story. This will help them to be engaged in the story because they can spot their own features that they have included. It gives the option to print their story but it can also just be read directly off the screen.
