News Bulletin September
I hope you have had a lovely break, and managed to get some rest too!? It is lovely to see all the children back in school. They are settling into their new classes well, they are concentrating in class, and they are all having lots of fun with their friends at break times.
Last night there was a disturbance around the Green Lane Road area, and I know that a number of families are fearful. The police have informed me that they were present last night, and managed to calm the situation eventually. The police also have a number of officers in the area today, and will remain in the area for the time being. Whatever caused this unrest, we know that as a school community we are all here to support our children, and each other. If you have any concerns please call, as we hope to see all children back in school tomorrow. It is important that the children feel safe, and return to their normal routines as quickly as possible, especially as we know that the police will now be remaining in the area.
We also know that many of us are facing financial challenges as prices continue to increase. If you find yourselves struggling, please come in and talk to us. We can make appointments for you at either the Highfields Centre (Melbourne Road) or local Sure Start (Barnard Close or Vancouver Road), where there are trained advisors who will be able to help you, regarding benefits, grants and possibly loans.
There are some dates below of upcoming events, including our beginning of the year parent welcome meetings. At these meetings, myself and your child's teachers, will talk through some important policies, as well as some information around what your child will be learning and how you could support them. We hope to see you there.
As always our doors are open, please come and talk to us if you have any questions or concerns. Even if we can't help, we will find someone who can. We will continue to work in partnership, so that your children remain happy, healthy and learning.

If you are interested and meet the following requirements please come and see Mrs Thakrar in the office:
We do have a small bank of parents at present and it would be great to add more people to this, if you have any questions please come and talk to us.
Uniform is an important part of a school’s identity. It reinforces who we are as a community and helps students to feel pride in their school.
As stated in our last newsletter we are now phasing out grey jumpers and have asked parents to buy only maroon jumpers when purchasing new jumpers. It is so lovely to see so many children wearing maroon jumpers, all the children are looking very smart.
Also, please ensure that articles of clothing are marked or labelled with your child’s full name. Last year we had a lot of items that were unclaimed in lost property. When there is a name we will be able to get the clothes back to the child.
Did you know all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are all entitled to free universal meals. Having a hot school lunch will provide a nutritionally balanced meal. We can also help encourage your child to try new foods.
If your child is not having school lunches, why not give it a try? The menu is on the school website, please go through this with your child and select day(s) when there may be something they like. Remember you do not have to have a meal every day and can change your mind whenever you want.
For children in Year 3 to 6 the cost of a lunch per day is £2.40 or £12.00 per week. For those children that are entitled to benefit related free meals, this is free.
