Shenton Primary School

Empowering and nurturing young minds to achieve excellence

4.9.2020 Parent letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you to nearly all of you for being so patient, and working with us to make those little changes that will make us all safer on the school site. In particular, thank you to all of you who are no longer driving down Dunlin Road, it has made entering and leaving the site so much safer for all of us.

I am writing to clarify some small changes for next week, and to make sure you have access to any information you need. There are some reminders / points below of how you can help us to help you.

If you have any other ideas, please don’t hesitate to email/contact us and we will see what we can do.

Drop off / Pick Up

Drop off is working well, we are all managing to get the children in to school between 8.30am and 9am.  From next week if your child arrives after 9am they will be marked late.

We are working on making pick up time run just as smoothly. For next week, the school gates will open at 2.45pm, not before.

We will continue to review this as we are trying to balance making sure we have enough time to teach your children the whole curriculum whilst still ensuring you and your child are safe. Our challenge at the moment is how to dismiss Year 5 safely in all weathers as their classrooms exit onto a narrow pathway. The classes will still exit from the top playground and we will make sure you find your child until we have settled the situation.

Please make sure you leave the school site as soon as you can, and try as much as possible to maintain 2m distancing, we are getting better at this but could still improve.

Lastly, don’t forget your face masks when you are on site, as there are moments when we may find ourselves closer to someone than we expected to be. Staff will wear coverings as well, to make sure you are protected.

Talking to Teachers at Class Doors

Please remember to keep any messages short so that queues do not form, and please make an appointment if you would like to talk for longer or if you would like a confidential conversation.

Breakfast Club

Places are extremely limited this year due to ensuring 2m distancing in a limited space. This means that you will need to phone/email and book a place in case we are full.

Please phone 0116 2628778 or email or come into school to reserve a place.

Priority is being given to families with working parents and those families entitled to free school meals.

PE Kits not needed

The children do not need a PE kit, but please make sure they are wearing trainers/plimsolls everyday so that they can run easily.

We have planned physical activity and games for every day so that we can make sure your child has regained any fitness levels they may have lost over the isolation/closure period.

School Dinners

New menus are on the website, and can be found here

Homework & MSTeams

It is important that we all continue to have internet access, as well as the skills and equipment for your child to learn at home should they need to isolate for any reason.

Your child’s Microsoft accounts are active again, so please check they are working. All homework will be emailed to your child, so again, please check and make sure it is all working. Your child’s new teacher will have sent a welcome message for you.

If you need any help, phone us or email and we will support you. We can show you how to log in, how to access the account on different gadgets, or check your gadgets. Just make an appointment and we will do what we can to help.

General Communication

We are all getting used to finding safe ways to communicate, it isn’t as easy for us to just talk to each other as before.

It is really important however, that if you do have any concerns that you don’t wait. We know that if we talk earlier rather than later, we can help to keep your child happy and safe at school, and resolve any issues.

Please phone 0116 2628778 or email or email the teacher you would like to speak to directly. We will then get back to you.

Class teachers are very busy and usually in class, so if you have any general questions please email/phone the office as you will get a quicker response.

The school office is always open, myself and Ms Lad are also here for you to talk to.

Take care and stay alert, stay safe.

Ms Gita
